Developing a common framework

Why do we need a common framework for on-farm sustainability?

Conducted by a group of independent research consultants and the Sustainable Food Trust, A Case for Convergence shares the results of a detailed gap analysis of existing farm auditing schemes to assess the degree of overlap and discrepancy of the range of current sustainability tools.

This study demonstrates a significant opportunity for convergence by identifying the best features of the existing tools and where there is scope for further harmonisation. It is suggested that a common framework to assess on-farm sustainability has the potential to be used by government agencies (including Defra and the RPA), food companies, certifiers and auditors, farmers and citizens.
