Guidebook for schools

This seasonal guidebook helps educators integrate a holistic understanding of sustainable farming into children’s gardening projects. Based on the GFM and shaped by The Harmony Project’s principles, it introduces students to key environmental, social, and economic aspects of sustainability.

Designed for schools, community gardens, libraries, and outdoor learning programmes, the guide offers practical activities, inquiry questions, and tools to help children explore how gardens connect to wider food and farming systems.

Please note, this was based on GFM 1.1 (2023) version of the framework. Updated resources will be released for GFM 2.0.

Printable poster

Use the GFM wheel as a visual prompt to support decision-making on your farm, in your organisation, or in conversations about sustainability. The wheel highlights the key areas of a holistic farm system — from soil health to livelihoods — helping guide reflections, discussions, and actions.

Print it out, display it somewhere visible — in your office, farm meeting space, or classroom — to keep the big picture in view when making decisions that balance environmental, social and economic outcomes.

See here for an accessible version of the wheel.
